Do authors get unemployment? Is a freelance social investigater covered under the rules of obtaining work permits in Kenya? Why didn’t they tell him he needed a work permit to visit Kenya before he got there?

Every country is entitled to make their own rules. That comes with sovereignty. If you visit a country, you follow their laws. As to why they didn’t tell him before he got there, maybe he neglected to find out. I would suspect he knew or had reason to know, and did this so as to get thrown out. Now he can claim he was being prevented from investigating, as part of a cover-up that doesn’t really exist.
